The theme of the competition was not chosen by chance. Turkmens are the creators and pioneers of the first domesticated horse breed in human history − the famous Ahal-Teke. In fact, horse breeding as a human activity originated with the Ahal-Teke. And at the origins of this tradition were the Turkmen people, who gave the world these «heavenly» horses, as they have been called since ancient times, more than five thousand years ago.
Ahal-Teke horses are an integral part of the history, national worldview, and mentality of the Turkmen people. Their image adorns the State Emblem of Turkmenistan, and a significant portion of the rich cultural, literary, and musical heritage of the Turkmen people is dedicated to them.
The Ahal-Teke is one of the symbols of the independence, self-sufficiency, and national dignity of the Turkmen people. It is significant that the current year, 2026, is being held under the motto «Independent neutral Turkmenistan – the homeland of purposeful winged horses», according to a Resolution of Mejlis of the country.
The revival and development of horse breeding traditions is currently a priority of state policy. Modern horse breeding and equestrian sports infrastructure is being built year after year. Hippodromes and related facilities have been built in all five velayats of Turkmenistan, the scientific and educational base for horse breeding is being improved, systematic educational activities are being implemented, and the international ties of Turkmen horse breeders are expanding.
The geographic scope of competition is logical and justified. Authors from countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States are invited to participate. As is well known, Turkmenistan assumed the chairmanship of the CIS this year. One of the goals of its activities in this capacity is the revival and development of cultural, historical, humanitarian, and sporting ties between the peoples of the CIS countries. Cooperation in horse breeding is one of the important areas of this process.
Both television companies and independent filmmakers of any age are welcome to participate in the competition. Films can be in any language (with Russian or English subtitles).
Submissions will be accepted for consideration: 15-30 minute-long films dedicated to the history of horse breeds, the role of horses in the culture of the CIS nations, and equestrian sports.
Full information, including evaluation criteria and the application procedure, is available in the competition Regulations on the «Turkmenistan news portal» website.
