A striking event in cultural life of the capital was the opening of the exhibition “Caravaggio in Turkmenistan”, organized under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as the Italian Embassy in our country. The exposition, deployed simultaneously at two exhibition venues, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Gallery of the Academy of Arts, introduces works of the greatest Italian painter and Early Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610). The exhibition will help to take a look at Caravaggio’s art through the alembic of digital technology. Reproductions, perfectly executed, correspond to the works’ actual size, and special lighting, which enhances the light-to-dark transitions, creates an impressive visual effect. Caravaggio is considered to be the founder of the realism in European painting of the 17th century. His early works – “Sick Bacchus”, “The Fortune Teller”, “The Lute Player” had already been recognized to be innovative in spirit. Light-to-dark contrasts give monumentality features to his pictures, and the heroes of the paintings are endowed with zest for life and full of emotions that makes an indelible impression on the viewer. The exhibition will last until February 25.
