On February 5, 2025, the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Akihisa Nagashima.
The guest thanked the National Leader of Turkmen people for the meeting and conveyed greetings and best wishes on behalf of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. It was emphasized that Japan pays special attention to the development of multifaceted cooperation with Turkmenistan.
Welcoming the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, the National Leader of Turkmen people addressed his best wishes to Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Hero-Arkadag expressed confidence that the current visit of Mr. Akihisa Nagashima to Ashgabat would expand relations between Turkmenistan and Japan and wished the guest success.
Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty also emphasized that upon the initiative of Turkmenistan, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” and expressed gratitude to Japan for the support. In this context, Hero-Arkadag informed about the high-level International Forum scheduled to be held this year, marked by the 30th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, and invited the Japanese side to participate in it.
Noting the importance of mutual visits in the context of furthering interstate dialog, the guest shared pleasant memories of the visits of the National Leader of Turkmen people to Japan.
During the meeting, the active pace of development of friendly Turkmen-Japanese relations in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other fields was noted.
The consistent and long-term bilateral economic partnership was emphasized, in the development of which the Turkmen-Japanese and Japan-Turkmen Committees on Economic Cooperation play a significant role. New vectors of bilateral partnership were outlined during the 15th joint meeting of the Committees held in Ashgabat in December 2024.
Hero-Arkadag noted Turkmenistan’s special attention to diversification of energy export routes and development of specialized processing industry taking into account natural gas reserves.
Large Japanese companies have been effectively cooperating with Turkmenistan in the gas and chemical industries for many years.
The polymer plant in Kiyanly, urea plant in Garabogaz, plant producing the gasoline from natural gas in Akhal province, as well as the Maryazot plant were noted among the successfully completed projects.
Mr. Akihisa Nagashima expressed his sincere gratitude to the National Leader of Turkmen people and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for providing favorable conditions for constructive work of Japanese commercial organizations.
Noting that a number of major projects are being implemented in Turkmenistan jointly with Japanese companies, Hero-Arkadag reiterated the readiness of the Turkmen side to advance the partnership.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is interested in participating in the World Exhibition EXPO 2025 scheduled to be held in Osaka in April this year and a special Organizing Committee has been established in the country in this regard.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral formats, Hero-Arkadag wished success in holding the first Summit of the Dialogue “Central Asia + Japan” and the World Exhibition EXPO 2025.
During the meeting, the role of cultural and humanitarian dialog in strengthening interstate ties, rapprochement of peoples and mutual enrichment of cultures was noted.
The National Leader of Turkmen people emphasized the importance of partnership in education. “Japanese language is taught at the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology, and it is necessary to continue constructive, oriented cooperation, as well as to organize mutual Days of Culture,” Hero Arkadag said.
He also reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to intensify and enrich bilateral relations.
At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Akihisa Nagashima expressed assuredness in the consistent strengthening of constructive Turkmen-Japanese cooperation for the benefit of friendly peoples and exchanged best wishes.
