The fourth release of the collection of articles from the series “Art and architecture of Turkmenistan” was issued. It continues the publication of the annual scientific reports of the National Directorate for protection, study and restoration of historical and cultural monuments and of the State Academy of Arts. The collection, which already famous among professional circles, promotes interest to the glorious history of the Turkmen people, inexhaustible richness of its cultural heritage and professional work of our contemporaries. The section “Arts and Craft” has included the articles on the art of mosaics and carpet weaving. It tells about the restoration of the mosaic of the Bronze Age, identified by archaeologists in Gonur-depe, and as well as reports on the different types of medieval pottery, collected during archaeological work in the territory Kunyaurgench. The section “Fine Arts” covers the art history analysis of selected topics in modern Turkmen painting, and also contains articles on the area of spreading of ancient Margiana’s art, on fragments of sculpture eagle image, found by archaeologists during excavations at Old Nisa, about the unique page with miniatures from an ancient manuscripts, recently discovered in Kunyaurgench. The ""Architectural Heritage"" section contains the articles, devoted to scientific research and conservation works carried out at the Great Kyz-Kala in the reserve area “Ancient Merv”, the architectural decoration of the monuments of Southern Turkmenistan of XI-XII centuries, medieval castles on the territory of the Merv oasis. The collection ends with the new section “Researchers of culture”, which is represented by the feature article, authored by doctor of historical sciences V.N.Pilipko, famous researcher of Parthian culture, including the list of his works. Among the authors of the collection are national experts and their foreign counterparts, whose latest findings are of interest not only for scientists and students of relevant specialties, but also for all who are interested in the formation and development of material and spiritual culture of Turkmenistan and Central Asia as a whole. This publication, oriented for an international readership, is also provided to the libraries of the major humanitarian research centers of America, Europe and Asia.
