A new issue of “Miras” - a popular science magazine published quarterly by the National Institute of Manuscripts (the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan), has recently come out. The magazine is devoted to the preservation and popularization of the national historical and cultural heritage (including the handwritten one), the issues of theory of the history of Turkmenistan in its close connection with philosophy, literature, social and political journalism, art history, sociology and other disciplines. One of the topics, which is always a big draw for researchers, is the history of Merv, once a center of the ancient civilization that has endowed the world with magnificent masterpieces of traditional ancient Turkmen art, architecture, and crafts. In this context, an article on the craniological finds in Soltangala and the Sahabah architectural complex written by leading researchers of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences is of specific interest.
