On November 2, the International Scientific Conference “The role of “Gerogly” epos in the world culture” was launched the Turkmen capital. The forum was organized by the country’s Ministry of Culture on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov. Opening of the International Scientific Conference “The role of “Gerogly” epos in the world culture” took place in the Mukams Palace of the State Cultural Center with the participation of government members, the heads and representatives of the Academy of Sciences, several ministries and departments, academic institutes and universities, mass media, public organizations, artists and students. During an exchange of views, the sides discussed the issues related to the mutual influence among cultures, the study of national traditions, folklore, and preservation of intangible spiritual heritage. In this regard the emphasis was made on the fruitful character of cooperation established with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The historical and literary image of Gerogly was in the limelight of forum participants, who discussed the impact of this epos on development of the Oriental literature. Some reports were about analysis of the nature and history of plots, originality of the folk-epic product’s genre, the ideological content of its characters and poetic style. Speakers at the meeting pointed out the great educational value of the epos that describes a destiny of the Turkmen people. The Gerogly epos not only narrates heroic feats of brave warriors who fought for the people’s honor and freedom of the Homeland, but it also represents a kind of moral code. Scientists emphasized in their presentations that, being a vivid expression of the high moral and aesthetic views of the Turkmen people, an illustration of the extraordinary intensity of their epic creativity, the “Gerogly” epos is one of the most important monuments in the world spiritual-intellectual process. The conference participants unanimously agreed on the necessity to continue the fruitful scientific contacts, promoting deep study of the Turkmen people’s historical heritage, rapprochement of the peoples and their cultures for strengthening peace, friendship and harmony. In the framework of cultural programme the conference participants visited the National Music and Drama Theatre named after Mahtumkuli, which staged the “Saýathan” opera. A spectacular musical staging, saturated with bright ethnic color, afforded the audience an opportunity to experience the originality of Turkmen traditions and customs.
