The International Conference on Muhammed Bayram Khan the Turkmen and the traditions of humanism, patriotism and courage of the Turkmen people has taken place today in a hybrid virtual and in-person format. It was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

Diplomats and scientists from Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, the Russian Federation and Tajikistan delivered reports via videoconferencing at a plenary meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

As noted, Turkic peoples have preserved the cultural and historical heritage of ancient civilizations that had an enormous impact on world history. These peoples, who have preserved their national identities, religions, languages, uniquely distinctive cultural and spiritual traditions accumulated by earlier generations, have every right to be proud of their glorious and rich past.

According to the scientists, not only will the conference help to provide new and deeper insights into the life and poetry of one of the greatest historical figure, Bayram Khan the Turkmen, but will also make a valuable contribution to strengthening international scientific and cultural ties.

The representatives of scientific circles from foreign countries highlighted that Turkic peoples living in different parts of the world are linked by shared ethnic, spiritual and historical roots, and their close cooperation encourages the mutual enrichment of cultures.

Discussions on the gifted poet and outstanding military commander Bayram Khan continued in four workshop sessions: “The impact of medieval culture, science, literature and art on the spiritual and cultural development of humanity”, “The role of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s Peace and Trust Doctrine in international relations”, “The literary oeuvre of Muhammed Bayram Khan the Turkmen and the origins of national upbringing”, and “The cultural and historical relations of the Turkmen and Indian nations: ancient roots and modern prospects”.

Speakers focused on historical and literary materials on the life and oeuvre of Muhammed Bayram Khan the Turkmen, special characteristics of his poetry, philosophical and humanistic views, as well as the socio-political system of the Mughal Empire – one of the greatest states in the East in the 16^th century.

During a lively and meaningful exchange of views, discussions revolved around the cross-cultural interaction, the study of folk traditions, and the protection of non-material spiritual heritage.

Special mention was made of the chronicles that provide plentiful evidence that in many areas of the East and India the historical and cultural ties between Turkmens and Indians going back to antiquity can be considered not only from the historical aspect. The cross-cultural contacts between the two ancient peoples continue to develop successfully in the third millennium as well.

In this context, the participants emphasized that Turkmenistan and India are rightly proud of the Turkmen nation’s illustrious son Bayram Khan – a statesman, poet, military commander and philosopher.

Bayram Khan the Turkmen, who ruled the Mughal Empire, proved himself not only as the great commander, but also left behind the rich body of work – 350 poems in Turkmen and 600-plus poems in Persian – inspirational ghazels, rubais, qasidas, and so-called “scholarly poems” based on the comprehensive knowledge in different fields of science, including astronomy, medicine, and law.

A considerable part of the reports were devoted to Bayram Khan’s diplomatic principles in international relations and his philosophical views, cultural diplomacy, instilling the spirit of patriotism and high human values in youth, and love poetry.

Exploring ancient cities is the topical subject in world oriental studies and world history. As one of the important trading routes in ancient and medieval times that linked many countries, from China to Byzantine and to Europe, the Silk Road played the huge role in promoting economic relations between the East and the West.

Aside from that, the Silk Road served as a confluence of diverse cultures and cross-cultural exchange, contributing to the development of world civilizations. The network of caravan routes promoted the spread of scientific knowledge, literary works and the world’s religions.

Reports presented at the conference explored important aspects of the development of national literatures and philosophical ideas, including as exemplified by Bayram Khan’s poetry that provides invaluable insights into Turkic people’s social life. Many of the speakers recited the talented poet’s poems, seen as a unique code of moral values.

Songs with exhortations, monologues and dialogues from the epics have nurtured in many generations of Turkmens a profound love for their native land. Stressing the importance of studying Bayram Khan’s oeuvre, the participants shared an opinion that it is a priceless treasure of humanity.

Those speaking at the conference unanimously agreed on the need to continue the fruitful scientific ties to thoroughly explore the Turkmen people’s historical heritage.
