The Turkmenistan Carpet holiday was marked widely and solemnly in Turkmenistan. On the occasion of the significant date, in all cities and etraps were organized meetings, fine art exhibitions, contests, concerts and theatrical shows. The ceremonies of awarding and honoring the best masters of carpet-making and distinguished carpet makers were held in the enterprises of artistic carpet-weaving industry, at the factories and separate production shops of the State Corporation “Turkmenkhaly”, in social organizations of the country. The major festivities devoted to Turkmen carpet were held in our white-marble capital of our Motherland - Ashgabat. The National Turkmen Carpet Museum hosed a traditional international exhibition under the title ”Turkmen carpet - the soul of Turkmen”. Representatives of many countries of the world, traditional partners of our country in the carpet-weaving handicraft, like Russia, China, Germany, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and others, came to the capital to participate in the exhibition. Among 160 foreign guests were the scholars, and specialists, famous carpet producers, businessmen, and representatives of large commercial companies, the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpet-Weaving Handicraft, national culture centers, as well as the guests from Japan. Our permanent partners – representatives of the association of manufacturers and exporters from Iran and Afghanistan, also demonstrated their new hand-made carpets and other carpet products in the exhibition. The conference hall of the State Corporation “Turkmenkhaly” hosted a regular (15th) conference of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpet-Weaving Handicraft. Among the delegates were representatives of Astrakhan and Stavropol branch offices (Russia) of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpet-Weaving Handicraft, national culture centers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Karakalpak Republic, scholars, historians, and art critics, experts, weavers and collectors from Japan, China, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and others. In their speeches, the participants of the forum represented the results of their research work on the history of origin and peculiarities of the ancient carpet patterns, designs and ornaments, development of carpet making art in different countries. The paper of the Director of Cashmere Corporation of Chinghai province of the PRC of production of cashmere and Tibet carpets evoked special interest amidst the forum participants. In the Concert Center “Ashgabat” a solemn ceremony was held of awarding the best workers of the sector. In compliance with the Ukase of the President of Turkmenistan they were conferred upon the honorary title “Honored Carpet Maker of Turkmenistan “, and presented with valuable gifts and honorary diplomas.
