Our athletes achieved good results at the sixth World Shotokan Championship, which recently ended in Tbilisi (Georgia). Two gold and one bronze medals, won in individual kumite and team kata (complex exercises) replenished the “medal box” of Turkmen sportsmen. Over 1,200 athletes from 32 countries had arrived in the capital of Georgia. In our team, Zuhrajan Jumabaeva showed the most impressive result. The student of the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan won two medals – gold and bronze ones, having brilliantly performed in individual combats in the age group over 18 years old. Z. Jumabaeva took the highest level on the medal podium in the WSKU (the World Shotokan Karate Union) competitions, and won third place in the WKF (the World Karate Federation) competitions. Turkmen sportsmen won one more gold medal in team kata (WSKU version) in the 16-17 age group. It should be noted that our team consisted of athletes representing three regional Shotokan Karate Schools – of Balkan, Lebap and Dashoguz velayats. Despite this, the national team of Turkmenistan demonstrated effective teamwork, and outstanding sporting proficiency, having got ahead of all the opponents, including the team of Japan – the country, where this kind of martial art originated. Jelal Satlykgulyev, Oguzhan Nizamov and Hydyr Hydyrov became gold medalists. Our Shotokan karate masters devoted their success to the remarkable date – the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
