At the talks with President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the official visit to the United Arab Emirates on November 21-22, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the transport and logistics sector is seen as a strategic area of partnership, where there are ample opportunities for the implementation of projects to form combined transport corridors with the use of the port infrastructure of both countries.
Based on the outcomes of the high-level talks, a Joint Statement of Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates was adopted, which contains a separate paragraph specifying that “the parties highlighted the important role of transport links in stepping up bilateral economic cooperation and, in this regard, pointed out the need for partnership between the international ports of Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates”.
The President of Turkmenistan also focused on presence of great opportunities for the development of cooperation in the transport sector during his speech at the opening ceremony of the “Turkmenistan-UAE” Business Forum on the second day of his official visit to Abu Dhabi.
Giving a positive assessment to the fact that a loan agreement was signed in 2021 between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to finance the construction of a complex of facilities for an airport in Jebel city, Balkan Velayat, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed readiness to invite partners from the UAE to carry out a number of other projects of transport and infrastructure systems in our country.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov identified development of the transport sector as one of the important areas of economic strategy in the modern epoch. Today, transport topics are becoming the matter of close and concerned attention from the expert community. “Turkmenistan believes that the trade, economic and investment cooperation between the states of Central Asia has to acquire a strategic aim, i.e., turning it into one of the foundations for the formation of a new geo-economic landscape of Eurasia”, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in his speech at the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, held in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan on July 21 this year.
The cornerstone of this strategy is transport and logistics. As the President of Turkmenistan emphasized, the efforts of our countries can and must be aimed at achieving the main goal, that is, the creation of a high capacity and modern infrastructure that would ensure the integration of the transport systems of Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
At the same time, the readiness of our state for joint work to develop the transport routes Central Asia-Caspian Sea-Black Sea and Central Asia-Persian Gulf was confirmed.
At the opening ceremony of new transport infrastructure facilities via a digital system on September 24, including passenger bus stations in the Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary Velayats, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed, inter alia, that the motor transport sector, constituting an important part of the transport and logistics system of the country, and where modern bus stations, railroad and highway bridges, and the International Automobile Terminal in the northern part of our beautiful capital, have been put into operation in recent years, makes a great contribution to the integration of Turkmenistan into an operation area of the developed countries.
The construction of high-speed highways Ashgabat-Turkmenabat and Ashgabat-Turkmenbashy is being carried out at a high pace. During the opening ceremony of new transport infrastructure facilities, quality certificates were awarded confirming the full compliance of the functionality of passenger terminals in Balkanabat, Dashoguz, Turkmenabat and Mary in terms of bus and taxi transportation, as well as services provided to the population, with all the requirements for traffic established by the NVA .
Along with this, practical steps are taken to enhance the material and technical resources of the sector, innovative technologies are introduced into the activities of specialized services. To date, this sector is provided with modern vehicles from the world’s leading manufacturers such as Toyota, Hyundai Universe Luxury, Hyundai Universe Noble, Hyundai Super Aero City, Yutong ZK6129H, PAZ-32054, which are operated on intracity routes and intercity transportation services. New transport routes are developed and created.
At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on September 23, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the Decree on the purchase of 1000 Toyota Coaster middle-class buses, 250 Toyota Hiace minibuses, as well as spare parts and consumables for them.
Moreover, on the eve of celebrating the 31st anniversary of the sacred independence of our Homeland, on the instruction of the President of Turkmenistan, the technical fleet of the “Türkmenawtoulaglary” Agency was replenished with 150 Toyota Corolla taxi cars.
Thus, the policy being pursued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the transport sector is a striking illustration of the fact that Turkmenistan is building international cooperation in this area, taking into account the interests of all parties, contributing to the establishment of strong bridges of business partnership for the purposes of universal development.
