After one-on-one talks, high-level Turkmen – Armenian negotiations were continued in extended format with participation of the government delegations. During the talks, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that existing level of trust and understanding allows Turkmenistan and Armenia building their relations confidently for the future, agreeing the approaches to the key subjects of international politics, formatting long-term plans of cooperation in economy, trade, investment activity, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Turkmenistan sees Armenia as important political partner both in bilateral cooperation as well as under international organizations. Both countries stand for consolidation of universal peace, stability and security, consolidation of the UN role, adherence to the general standards of international law and the UN Charter, assertion of equality, respect and fair in global relations. The Head of Turkmenistan made special emphasis on the perspectives of cooperation under the Commonwealth of the Independent States. Having noted that the Republic of Armenia stands for steadfast supporter of the initiatives of Turkmenistan in energy security and transport cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed the gratitude to the leaders of friendly state for the support and co-authorship of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the announcement of December 12 as International Neutrality Day. Turkmen Leader also noted an active participation of high-rank deegation of Armenia in work of the UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat in November of the last year. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov spoke on the willingness to targeted cooperation with the Republic of Armenia on counteracting of modern challenges and threats such as international terrorism, illegal drugs traffic and transboundary crime. Special place among the priorities of bilateral relations is traditionally occupied by trade and economic relations. The presence of serious potential for expansion of partnership in such spheres as energy, transport, textile industry, financial and banking sphere, agricultural complex and health care was noted during the 8th Intergovernmental Turkmen – Armenian Commission on economic cooperation in March of this year. The proposal of Armenia in information technologies sphere by establishment of joint internet providing services seems to be perspective. Opening of new direct flight between Ashgabat and Erevan was one of the main subjects of the negotiations. It was proposed to increase the number of flights destination to third countries in the future resting on relative Memorandum of Understanding between the representatives of aviation authorities of both countries and Intergovernmental Agreement on air communication. The sides also discussed the issues of the development of direct contacts and relations between business circles of two countries with the involvement of private structures in intergovernmental plans and programmes. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov suggested to discuss the opportunity of opening of the Trade House of Turkmenistan Erevan and Trade House of Armenia in Ashgabat respectively. Speaking of the importance of further intensification of humanitarian contacts, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that the people of two countries are related with long friendship ties and numerous historical facts speak of close Turkmen – Armenian relations starting from the early Medieval times. Having expressed the interest in continuation of intensive contacts in sport sphere, the Head of Turkmen state noted the willingness to support the participation of Turkmen and Armenian athletes in the competitions held by both countries. Continuing the subject, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan is to host V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in coming September. Taking an opportunity, the Leader of the nation invited President Serj Sargsyan to visit Ashgabat for participation in the opening ceremony of the Games on September 17. The Head of Turkmenistan expressed the gratitude to Armenian friends for the work undertake for preparation of current official visit.
