A regular meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan focused on the preparations for the upcoming elections to Gengesh and Mejlis in two electoral districts: the electoral district Gunesh 7 and the electoral district Dostluk 8 in Ashgabat – newly elected members will replace the retired parliamentarians. Members of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, representatives of the working groups under the Central Commission and the media and national observers participated in the meeting. The heads of the velayat election commissions reported on the preparations for the upcoming social and political action, including on the formation of 6,041 electoral districts for the elections to Gengesh on the territory of towns in etraps, settlements and gengeshliks, including 973 electoral districts in Ahal Velayat, 413 - in Balkan Velayat, 1,416 - in Dashoguz Velayat, 1,449 - in Lebap Velayat and 1,790 - in Mary Velayat. To date, 1,828 polling stations have been formed in the electoral districts; 33 polling stations have been formed for the elections to Mejlis. According to the national electoral law, the nomination of candidate members to Gengesh and Mejlis in the two electoral districts: the electoral district Gunesh 7 and the electoral district Dostluk 8 in Ashgabat will start on June 17, in accordance with the Resolution of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda. A total of 634 Gengesh – the representative bodies are formed on the territory of towns in etraps and settlements. Registration of candidate members will be done from 27 June to 22 July. Other organizational issues were discussed and the decisions were adopted during the meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda.
