In the message sent on the occasion of 25th anniversary of establishing official relations, President of the Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard expressed gratitude for the long-standing friendship between the two peoples, and strengthening of bilateral ties in the past quarter of the century. The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding on expanding cooperation between our financial ministries is another clear illustration of successful partnership. Over the past years, much has been achieved, but there are more opportunities for further deepening of cooperation, in particular, in the field of economic relations, where there is a considerable potential for growth, the letter says. Turkmenistan and Switzerland have much in common in the history of neutrality. Therefore, we have a special responsibility for ensuring the independence and security of our countries, as well as for contributing to a fair and positive world order. One of the areas where our states can join their efforts is the sustainable management of water resources. Water problems are not only a threat to the peoples and the environment, but also to security on a global scale. Switzerland is a supporter of water diplomacy, which will help consolidate the Central Asian countries in solving problems in this area. In this context, I would like to congratulate you on the Turkmenistan’s Presidency of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), and express appreciation for the constructive role in facilitating the dialogue on water resources management in the region. Sports games and competitions also provide great opportunities for the rapprochement of the peoples and cultures in a spirit of trust and solidarity. Therefore, I would like to congratulate you on the holding of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in September 2017, and I am confident that this grandiose sporting event will contribute to the strengthening of world position of Turkmenistan, Doris Leuthard said.
