Commenting on the results of the Turkmen-Afghan summit meeting at the press conference held after the event, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the profound content of the meeting, the agenda of which included the entire range of issues of bilateral relations. During the talks, the Turkmen leader continued, the sides focused on key areas of regional and international policy. In this regard, the need to consolidate joint efforts to ensure lasting peace, good-neighborliness and sustainable development in Central Asia and neighboring countries was noted. The necessity of creating conditions for the soonest integration of the region into the system of world economic relations was also stressed. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan and Afghanistan reaffirmed their commitment to the settlement of all emerging disputed and conflict situations by peaceful, political and diplomatic means and the intention to provide all-round assistance to the UN and other international structures. Our states will make a joint contribution to the creation of appropriate mechanisms in this direction. In order to counter international terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking and cross-border crime, the parties will continue to cooperate in this area, both bilaterally and in the format of international organizations. Stressing that stabilization of the situation in the country is the most important condition for an early and effective restoration of the Afghan economy, the Turkmen leader noted the need to implement, with the participation of the Afghan side, major infrastructure projects, in particular in priority sectors such as energy and transport. First of all, we are talking about the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline. At present, this project is already being implemented. Work is underway to build the Turkmen segment of the gas pipeline, which will be completed within the agreed timeframe. In this context, the Head of State expressed his appreciation to his Afghan counterpart for supporting the TAPI project and his willingness to provide the necessary assistance in its implementation. The construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railway was also discussed during the talks. In the autumn of last year, the laying of the first stage of the main line within the section of Atamyrat-Yamnazar-Akina was completed. Currently, the parties are actively cooperating on the issue of continuing the construction of the steel route, which in the future is planned to extend to the border with Tajikistan, on the Afghan territory. The actual topic of the meeting was on the supply of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan. Joint steps to expand electricity transmission systems at the expense of the construction of power plants and additional capacities on the Afghan side were discussed. Taking into account the new energy capacities of Turkmenistan, built in Lebap and Mary provinces, there will be an opportunity to increase the amount of electricity sent to the neighboring country several times, the Head of State said. At the same time, we are ready to supply Turkmen electricity through the territory of Afghanistan further - to other states of the region. These projects in the areas of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan are designed to unite the electricity transmission systems of the countries of Central and South Asia. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, he informed President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Turkmenistan's intention with the participation of Afghanistan to render active assistance in the implementation of regional and international infrastructure projects. In this regard, the relevant issues related to the holding of the next, the 7th Regional Economic Conference on Afghanistan in November this year, were also discussed. During the negotiations, an agreement was reached to increase joint efforts to increase the volumes of mutual trade turnover, diversify it and develop new areas of cooperation in this field. Close cooperation will continue in the humanitarian sphere, namely, in the field of science, culture, education and sports. This year, on September 17-27, 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will take place in Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, inviting the Afghan leader to the solemn ceremony of their opening. We regard the forthcoming Games not only as major international competitions, but also as an event designed to strengthen the relations of friendship and brotherhood, mutual understanding and cooperation between the countries and peoples of the Asian continent, the Head of State said.
