The action of burning a large batch of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances seized by the law enforcement and military agencies of Turkmenistan during the successful special actions took place nearby Bagabat village in Ak Bugdai Etrap, Ahal Velayat to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The action organized by the Government of Turkmenistan, the State Coordination Commission on Drug Abuse under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the State Service for the Protection of the Healthy Society vividly proved the commitment of our state and society to counter one of the global threats of humanity. Heads of military and law enforcement agencies and public organisations and the representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in our country, the major international organisations, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) and the OSCE, and the media participated in the action. Before burning, narcotic drugs seized during the special operations were demonstrated to those present. Then bags and bundles with narcotic drugs were burnt in the special furnaces. Each participant could take part in the action and throw a package with dangerous substances into the furnaces. These furnaces ensure that narcotic drugs are burnt completely. The action was held in full compliance with the regulations and monitored by law enforcement officers. Turkmenistan consistently cooperates with the United Nations. Our country is a party to the three international conventions on combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances adopted by the UN in 1961, 1971 and 1988 and a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for 2012-2015. In accordance with the National Programme to combat illicit drug trafficking and assist people addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for 2011-2015, extensive measures are taken to curb drug trafficking and detect and prevent drug addiction in our country.
