UN Secretary General António Guterres, who is on a working visit in Ashgabat, said that the UN is ready to cooperate with the countries of Central Asia in the economic sectors. During the talks with President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, the UN Secretary General noted that one of the key problems in the world is the water issue, and the region has opportunities for its solution. According to him, the region has many opportunities to develop trade, encourage investments, support the construction of infrastructure and create common conditions for solving the water crisis. António Guterres stressed that Central Asia is the rich region, and will become prosperous if cooperation is ensured. In his opinion, there are also strategic projects that connect Central Asia to rest of the world. “The UN is always ready to offer its assistance and support water, energy and infrastructure projects, as well as the creation of various trade mechanisms, tariffs, tax systems that can bring great benefits to development of the peoples of this region”, the UN Secretary General said.
