Various cultural and recreational events were held as tribute to the national treasure and talent of craftswomen who continue the ancient traditions of creating carpet masterpieces astonishing in their aesthetic perfection. The International exhibition, dedicated to this great art of our people, opened at the National Turkmen Carpet Museum on the eve of the celebrations and attracted an enormous number of foreign admirers. Today the Conference Hall of Turkmenhaly State Association hosted the XVII Conference of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Handmade Carpets. As is known, this international organization unites representatives of academic and business communities; masterpiece and antique collectors; fans and enthusiasts whose efforts help keep and develop the traditions of this ancient Turkmen tradition, and glorify the handmade canvasses amazing in their beauty and perfection. Patterns of the famous carpet ornament (gol) serve as the hallmark of prospering Turkmenistan, and are well-known in every corner of the planet. As noted by the participants of the forum, manual carpet weaving as an integral part of the history and culture of the people is the focus of the state policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that is aimed at preserving, fully developing and promoting the legacy of the ancestors. The Turkmen carpet “traveled” along the paths of millennia reflecting in its patterns the historical milestones, mentality, spiritual and moral values of the people. And even today, incorporating more and more colors and hues and being enriching by the current realities, it remains to be the standard of artistic expression. Embracing the nuances of carpet weaving, understanding the depth of its philosophy and the richest cultural and historical experience of the Turkmen people are contributed by international exhibitions and scientific conferences that are held in Ashgabat and offer brilliant opportunities for the further development and expansion of creative and business contacts between Turkmen carpet-weavers and foreign experts. During the forum reports were presented on the most pressing issues of studying the history of development of manual carpet weaving in different countries; the influence of traditions of the unique art and craft of the Turkmen people on the artistic creativity of different nations. The speakers shared the results of searches for ancient carpet samples in museum collections; and the outcomes of analytical studies of ornamental symbols. Special emphasis was placed on the economic aspects of developing the carpet industry; the tasks of implementing new advanced research and technical developments in the production of dyes and yarn. The forum featured the solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas and certificates to the participants of the international carpet exhibition. In the evening, the Ashgabat Concert Center hosted the grand awards ceremony for the best workers of the industry. The great concert by our country’s cultural and arts figures was a brilliant gift to the carpet-weavers, the citizens and guests of Ashgabat.
