VIII Neva Ecological Forum was held in Tavria Palace, Sankt-Petersburg on May 25 – 26. The forum organized by Inter-Parliamentarian Assembly of the CIS countries, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, was held under the slogan “”Ecological Awareness – Clean Country” and was dedicated to ecological behaviour, development of green economy, culture of production and consumption, healthy life style. The delegates of the congress shared the information and practices on formation of the ecological education system as a guarantee of ecological safety, protection of population’s health, realization of successful strategies and programmes for improvement of waste treatment and implementation of resources saving technologies. Plenary session and topical round table for discussion of proposals on improvement of legislation that is aimed at further development of ecological education, consolidation of interregional and frontier cooperation on the CIS space, promotion of ecologically oriented technologies, provision of healthy environment and improvement of life quality of people were held under the business part of the programme. Representatives of Turkmenistan, as a country chairing Interstate Fund for Saving of the Aral Sea, took part in round table work on “Modern issues and possible future of the Aral Sea” as well as visited the exhibition dedicated to ecological issues. During the forum, the members of Turkmen delegation had a meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. The sides discussed the issues of inter-parliamentarian cooperation as an important component of interstate relations and noted positive dynamics of the dialog between legislators of Russia and Turkmenistan. By the common opinion of the sides, it is supported by the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan signed in Ashgabat in December 2015. Generally, it was highlighted that Turkmen – Russian relations have strategic character and are developed in many directions including in regional cooperation. Large potential of cooperation in trade and economic sphere was mentioned. Valentina Matvienko invited Turkmenistan delegation to take part in the events of the 137th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentarian Union in Sankt-Petersburg on October 14 – 18, 2017.
