The holiday, which promotes the idea of peaceful coexistence, goodwill, humanism and calls on peoples to maintain friendly and fraternal relations, marks the special date in the national calendar. On this day, by the well-established noble tradition, people all over the country pay tribute to the memory of brave heroes who lost their lives on the battlefields of the deadliest war of the 20th century, and honor war veterans with special warmth. In the early morning, numerous residents and guests of Ashgabat gathered at the “Halk Hakydasy” Memorial Complex to pay tribute to the memory of those who had fallen for the bright future of the present and future generations of all the peoples in the world. Young soldiers, valiant defenders of the native country, were standing shoulder to shoulder with veterans in the square in front of the Memorial. Paying tribute to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War, veterans, representatives of labor collectives, residents and guests of the capital, among whom were sons and daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of war heroes, laid flowers at the “Baky Şöhrat” Monument. Prior to the holiday, educational institutions of Turkmenistan organized meetings with representatives of the older generation and thematic exhibitions, held literary events, celebratory assemblies and contests. On behalf of the head of state, war veterans and home front workers and widows were presented with money and valuable gifts. Thousands of our fellow countrymen demonstrated their unprecedented courage, devotion to duty and loyalty to their native country on all the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. The names of the national heroes have been immortalized in the “Hatyra” and “Şöhrat” Commemorative Books. Under the countrywide slogan “All for the front, all for victory!” people on the home front were working day and night to make their meaningful contribution to winning the Great Victory. Turkmen women donated 7,392 kilograms of gold and silver jewelry for the war needs. More than 130, 000 workers on the home front were awarded the Dedicated Service in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 War Medal. The cherished memory of millions of people and their heroism displayed for the sake of clear skies over our heads and peace on earth will live on in the hearts of present and future generations despite the passing of time. Creation of favorable conditions for good lives of those who fought in the War of 1941-1945 is one of the priorities of the country’s state policy. Thanks to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov’s great concern, war veterans, home front workers and widows of soldiers enjoy many privileges and receive benefits.
