To unify all digital stations into a single automated communications system, Turkmen communications engineers will have to lay over 2,000 kilometers of fiber-optic and copper cables throughout the country. By now, over 1,000 kilometers of various cables have been laid in the capital to provide its residents with a modern package of services (line communications, Internet, and IP TV services). Today, there are about 2 million customers who have access to high-speed Internet services. Modernization of external telecommunications networks will give new impetus to the development of World Wide Web. In particular, “Turkmentelekom” State Telecommunications Company plans to invite an international tender to expand external Internet channels, whose potential will increase twofold or threefold. By now, two long-distance fiber-optic systems have been built: a circular communication system – Ashgabat-Mary-Turkmenabat-Dashoguz-Ashgabat and a radial communications system – Garabogaz-Turkmenbashi-Ashgabat-Mary-Turkmenabat-Atamyrat-Ymamnazar, which were connected to the network of foreign states. The systems were provided with DWDM equipment with traffic-carrying capacity of 100 Gb/s to ensure transmission of international transit and local streams. The modernization of external networks will expand capabilities of “Turkmentelekom” State Telecommunications Company for changing over to high-speed Internet services throughout the country, and providing 4G LTE cellular services to its customers.
