On February 12th the polling stations of the country will open their doors to the people of Turkmenistan, which are expected to elect a Head of State. Nation-wide presidential elections will become another evidence of the irreversibility of democratization of the society, which, in an environment of openness, transparency, and with awareness of responsibility for the future of the country, prepares to select the most worthy of the nine candidates. According to the information, provided to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) by the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, all polling stations in the country and in diplomatic missions abroad are fully ready for the presidential elections. Extensive work has been done by representatives of government agencies at all levels and social organizations. Preparations for the elections have been carried out in accordance with the norms of domestic and international electoral legislation. This is confirmed by the mission of observers from the CIS. “The election campaign goes on in a quiet atmosphere, in the spirit of open competition, in the correct form and at a high organizational level”, - states the interim report of the Mission, published recently in the national press. The international observers also include members of the UN, SCO, and OIC, representatives of China, United States, Republic of Korea, Japan, Austria, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Iran, India and Afghanistan. For the purpose of providing information about all stages of the election campaign, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) at tdh.gov.tm portal and online resource “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” has created special sections where you can get all necessary information about the election campaign. On Election Day, the voting process will be reflected in two-hour intervals on these sites, as well as on the air on TV and radio channels. Each of the polling stations is equipped with transparent ballot boxes, including portable ones, ballot papers, reference and methodological literature. Rooms equipped with special cabins are allocated for voting. District election commissions, composed of acknowledged representatives of labor collectives and the public, have taken up their duty with utmost responsibility. Broad outreach largely led to increased voter turnout. Those who will be absent at their place of residence on the Election Day, have acquired the right to vote early. Their ballots will be stored in special sealed ballot boxes before the start of the vote count. A special place in the activities of election commissions is given to work with trusted persons of candidates for the post of the President of Turkmenistan, including assistance in organizing and holding meetings with the electorate. Meetings of voters with candidates for the presidency were held in accordance with the established schedule that has been agreed between the parties. The time and place of such meetings have been advertised in advance in the media. All candidates were given equal conditions and opportunities for agitation. Numerous letters and phone calls of voters to the election commissions in the fields, containing questions and suggestions for the candidates for the presidency, were systematized and submitted for consideration to the candidates. The largest news agencies of the world also express close interest in the presidential elections. Experts, political scientists and journalists are interested in just about anything that has to do with the election campaign. Their publications show that they are very impressed by both its scale and its businesslike, constructive atmosphere. The elected President of the country will take the burden of responsibility for the further prosperity of the country and welfare of the people. 2017 is full of upcoming significant events in the life of the state. One of them is Vth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, scheduled for September, which in addition to Asian states, will also be attended by the Pacific countries. Another important event is the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Energy Charter Conference in 2017, which is another indication of the high level of respect of the country on the world stage. The desire to strengthen multi-format cooperation is highly appreciated by the international community, as evidenced by the fact of the country's election to the post of Vice-Chairman of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly and admittance to three commissions of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). As part of comprehensive industrialization until 2030, it is planned to build a number of industrial complexes.
