Today, in the «Avaza» National Tourist Zone, as part of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, a high-level roundtable meeting was held on the issues of using the growing potential of trade, simplification of trade procedures and regional integration as an important condition for sustainable development.

The meeting, organised by the UN Secretariat jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan, was attended by representatives of governments of a number of countries, international organizations, business circles and specialised institutions, as well as experts, who comprehensively considered the most important challenges and opportunities facing LLDCs in the context of the modern global economy.

The main goal of the forum is to develop comprehensive strategies and recommendations aimed at expanding trade opportunities, improving infrastructure and increasing competitiveness in accordance with the priorities of the Avaza Action Program.

In the era of the Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, Turkmenistan's strategy for economic development, based on a scientific approach, effective management and planning, is being successfully implemented. This strategy is aimed at modernisation, diversification and digitalisation of the economy, widespread introduction of the latest technologies and innovations, active integration of the state into the system of global economic relations, sustainable improvement of the people's standard of living. Particular attention is paid to the compliance of goods and services with high quality standards as an important condition for the development of mutually beneficial, open and equal cooperation in world markets, increasing the country's export potential and protecting consumer rights.

Within the framework of the «open door» policy implemented by the neutral Fatherland, broad opportunities are being created for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with companies from various countries of the world. The status of «active observer» in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) opens up great opportunities for the development of production structures, expansion of export potential and more active integration of Turkmenistan into the system of international trade and economic relations. Program measures are being implemented to further improve and modernize the country's trading system, promote high-quality, environmentally friendly and competitive domestic goods to world markets, and expand mutually beneficial relations with foreign partners.

As a result of the transition to a market economy and the successful implementation of modern reforms, Turkmenistan is taking an increasingly significant position in the world market. Exhibitions and forums held in our country and abroad serve as an important platform for demonstrating the achievements of the state and investment potential.

The round table participants discussed important issues related to the development of LLDCs. Experts noted that the current epoch of globalisation and digitalisation opens up new opportunities for solving urgent problems. These include the introduction of digital technologies in customs, the development of electronic trading platforms and the development of innovative logistics solutions that can significantly facilitate trade operations and increase the efficiency of foreign economic activity.

One of the key topics of discussion was the role of regional integration as an effective tool for increasing the trade opportunities of LLDCs. The meeting participants emphasised that deepening economic cooperation between neighbouring states, the creation of interconnected transport and trade corridors, as well as the harmonisation of regulatory legal acts will help reduce transit barriers and improve logistics systems.

The process of regional integration opens up broad opportunities for diversifying export products, expanding sales markets and increasing investment attractiveness. In addition, it helps strengthen political dialogue and mutual understanding, which is an important condition for the sustainable development of these countries.

During the discussion of the multilateral trading system, the participants of the round table drew attention to the need to adapt the rules of international trade taking into account the specifics and needs of landlocked developing countries.

One of the important topics is strengthening cooperation with the World Trade Organisation, regional trade associations and other international institutions that can support the implementation of reforms and initiatives to improve the trading system.

Particular attention was paid to the formation of sustainable relations with transit countries, international financial institutions and organisations dealing with development issues. The participants of the meeting emphasised that the growth of trade in the LLDCs largely directly depends on interaction with transit partners. Joint projects to develop transport infrastructure, introduce modern logistics technologies and simplify transit procedures can eliminate obstacles and speed up transportation.
