Ashgabat’s Conference Hall of the Agricultural Complex hosted a regular meeting of the Interstate Coordination Commission (ICWC) that was attended by heads and specialists of ministries and departments of the countries of Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). water intake Participants in a meeting expressed satisfaction with the level of productive dialogue in finding coordinated approaches to addressing such an important issue for the entire region, as the careful use of water resources. In particular, at a meeting the results of 2016 inter-vegetation period were discussed, as well as water intake and an expected mode of tandem reservoir system for the current year in the Syrdarya and Amudarya Rivers, on which water availability for irrigated areas depends. This was considered on the agenda of the next meeting of ICWC. Separate attention was given to the issues of preparation for the upcoming events to take place this year to mark the 25th anniversary of founding the Commission for joint management of transboundary water resources. Present session of the Commission was the first meeting of water industry authorizes of the neighboring states at the beginning of Turkmenistan’s Presidency of IFSAS calculated for the next three years (2017-2019). The Interstate Coordinating Water Commission is one of the Structural Units of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea that was created in order to achieve harmonized approaches to the implementation of joint actions of countries in the region for the purpose in addressing the problems of the protection and restoration of the Aral Sea, as well as environmental improvements in its basin, general social and environmental problems of regional matters. Turkmenistan occupies the active position in the conservation of ecological well-being and protection of the environment in the region, consistently advocating the development of international cooperation in this field. Today, the country has accumulated vast experience in the implementation of modern water-saving technologies in irrigated agriculture, construction and operation of hydraulic structures. The Water Code of Turkmenistan to come into force this year is to promote a balanced solution to the issues of sustainable water management, rehabilitation and improvement of water bodies.
