In the era of the Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, the priority of the policy pursued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov remains strengthening the health of citizens as the most important component of the social well-being of modern society. The success of solving this problem is clearly demonstrated by the unique model of the national healthcare system formed in recent years, the peculiarity of which is extensive preventive work, prevention and diagnosis of diseases at an early stage, which directly serves to reduce the incidence rates among the population, increase the duration of its active, fulfilling life.
In accordance with the State Program «Saglyk», developed under the leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Hero-Arkadag and currently being implemented under the leadership of Arkadagly Hero Serdar, comprehensive measures are being taken to further develop preventive and personalized medicine using natural healing factors, which are so abundant in the richest Turkmen land.
One of the important steps taken in this direction recently was the development of the National Strategy for Medical Health and Rehabilitation Activities in Turkmenistan for 2024–2028, approved by the Decree of the Head of State in October 2024.
As part of the ongoing large-scale work to provide the population with high-level medical and preventive services, the health infrastructure is steadily improving.
The rapid development of the resort industry is facilitated by the climate, the diversity of natural landscapes and resources of our country, rare mineral waters and therapeutic muds that help cure many ailments.
Today, in all regions of Turkmenistan, a whole network of modern health resorts equipped with equipment from leading foreign manufacturers successfully operates, providing a wide range of services all year round. The latest health technologies used here, the comfortable conditions created for rest and treatment contribute to the restoration of health, relieve fatigue, and return people's vigor and energy.
Now, during the summer holidays, numerous patients are received by the sanatoriums «Arçman», «Ýyly suw» and «Bagabat» in the Ahal velayat, «Mollagara» and «Awaza» in the Balkan velayat, the sanatorium «Daşoguz» in the northern region of the country, «Farap» in the Lebap velayat, «Baýramaly» in the Mary velayat and the sanatorium «Berzeňňi» in Ashgabat.
Modern scientific and technological support of health resorts and maintaining their functioning at the proper level require considerable material investments. The state regularly allocates significant funds for these purposes, which from both an economic and social point of view are a direct investment in the health of the people, that is, in human capital.
Many famous Turkmen resorts have received a second life in recent years. Having changed their appearance thanks to a radical reconstruction and practically rebuilt, today the sanatoriums of our country are not inferior, and often surpass famous world medical and preventive centres in their equipment and range of services.
Innovative resort infrastructure is being intensively formed in the National Tourist Zone «Avaza», which is a multifunctional marine recreational complex. The main goal of implementing this large-scale project is to realise the colossal potential of Seaside - a unique natural pearl that attracts not only Turkmen citizens, but also numerous foreign guests.
On the ecologically clean coast of the Caspian Sea, high-class boarding houses, hotels with medical and therapeutic departments, children's health resorts, cottages for family holidays, sports centres have been built.
The «Awaza» sanatorium built here offers a wide range of complex methods of rehabilitation treatment, including, in addition to mandatory physiotherapy, aerotherapy (treatment with sea air), heliotherapy (therapeutic effects of sunlight), thalassotherapy (procedures using sea water and sea microelements, which are carried out under medical supervision), algotherapy (treatment with seaweed) and others.
It should be noted that all health resorts provide the necessary conditions not only for improving health, but also for interesting leisure time of vacationers, who have libraries, Internet cafes, shops and other cultural and social facilities at their disposal. In addition, excursion tours to nearby places of interest are organised.
It should be noted that the domestic health resort industry is focused on improving the health of people of all ages - children, young people, working-age population, as well as the longevity of elderly citizens.
In order to provide services at the proper level, much attention is paid to improving the professionalism of medical workers. Employees of sanatoriums regularly visit foreign countries for training and advanced training, which allows them to improve their skills, exchange experiences and keep abreast of the latest trends in this area.
Particular emphasis in medical work is placed on herbal medicine using medicinal plants growing on Turkmen soil. Phytobars operating in sanatoriums offer medicinal cocktails, teas, herbal infusions from medicinal plants of our country.
Their healing properties are described in the multi-volume scientific encyclopedia of Hero-Arkadag, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the country, doctor of medical sciences, professor Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov «Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan» and his book «Tea - Medicine and Inspiration».
As is known, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, who for many years supervised the sphere of domestic healthcare, dedicated his book «Turkmenistan - the Land of Healing» to the development of balneology.
The work, which reveals the enormous potential and prospects of our Motherland as a health resort of international significance, provides a detailed description of the influence of mineral waters, mud, climate, various methods of spa therapy on the human body, contains comprehensive information about resorts, natural attractions of the velayats, healing properties of plants successfully used in national healing practice for many centuries.
As noted in the fundamental work of Hero-Arkadag, the Turkmen land still conceals many unique healing places that are waiting to be discovered. And there is no doubt that all these riches will also be put to the service of our people, strengthening health and ensuring the happiness and well-being of the present and future generations.
