Today, our country marks a major nationwide holiday – the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monuments of the memorial complex "Halk hakydasy".

This bright holiday, in which the hopes and aspirations of peoples, their dreams and labor for the sake of the Great Victory are concentrated, holds a special place in the lives of Turkmenistan’s citizens, who are proud of their ancestors and cherish their legacies.

In his Address to the people of independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that in the era of the Revival of the new epoch of the powerful state, war and labor veterans make a significant contribution to the development of the homeland, the upbringing of youth in the spirit of patriotism and courage, and the strengthening of unity and cohesion of the people.

As emphasized by the head of state: “In Turkmenistan, which is becoming one of the prosperous countries of the world, we hold great respect for the veterans who set an unconditional example of love and loyalty to the Motherland in 1941-1945, for the mothers who endured the harsh days of war, and for all who bravely fought for the great cause. The older generation-our pride-instills in us love for the Homeland, respect for human dignity and parents, and serves as an example to follow.”

More than a hundred of our compatriots were awarded the high title of Hero for courage and bravery shown on the battlefields. Thousands of Turkmenistan’s citizens were awarded combat orders and medals. Among them is Berdimuhamet Annaev – the great-grandfather of the head of state Serdar Berdimuhamedov and grandfather of the Hero Arkadag, whose life path today serves as an example of true patriotism, valor, and nobility for Turkmen youth.

As is known, significant events took place in the life of our country and people in 2020, during the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. On that day, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and to hand over the Battle Banner of the 748th Rifle Regiment of the 206th Rifle Division, in which Berdimuhamet Annaev fought.

Notably, the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is celebrated in a year marked for our country by another jubilee date – the 30th anniversary of neutrality.
