Interdepartmental commission for fulfilment of international obligations in human rights sets working plan for 2017

Turkmen National Institute for the democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan hosted another meeting of Interdepartmental commission for fulfilment of international obligations in human rights and international humanitarian law by Turkmenistan, where the representatives of the Mejlis, number of ministries and branch departments, non-government organizations took part. During the meetings, the outcomes of the work of the Commission for the year 2016 were summed up; the issues related to the main directions of the activity of this structure were discussed. It was mentioned that complex of measures aimed at further democratization and consolidation of legal frameworks of Turkmen society was accomplished. Joining the main international legal documents of the United nations, including in human rights sphere, Turkmenistan undertakes practical measures for implementation of the provisions of these documents. Successful implementation of integrated legal reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which improve legislation base taking into account priority directions of social and economic development of the country and fundamental principles of international law, is visual evidence to this. In this regards, the monitoring of national legislation and development of relative recommendations are the main directions of the activity of the Commission. Discussing the plan of the work of the Commission in 2017, the participants of the session paid special attention to practical realization of “National Action Plan for Counteract of Human Trafficking in Turkmenistan in 2016 – 2018” as well as “National Action Plan for Provision of Gender Equality in Turkmenistan in 2015 – 2020”, which were adopted by the special Resolution of the Head of the State. At the same time, it was highlighted that these documents are aimed at improvement of the activity of governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations for provision of fundamental human rights and freedoms as well as implementation of the standards of international humanitarian law to domestic legislation and law enforcement practices. In this context, the necessity of further consolidation of established fruitful contacts with international organization, first of all with the UN and its structural departments, was mentioned. The participants also spoke for continuation of the seminars, meetings and consultations with participation of international experts on development of the reports, reviews and study of advanced practices in human rights protection. Number of other topics were reviewed during the session of Interdepartmental Commission.
