State education system is replenished by new institutions every year. Only in 2016 Turkmenistan has opened 35 new educational institutions. Out of the aforementioned, 17 are secondary schools with overall 9540 places and 16 are kindergartens with 2970 places. Last year a new university - Engineering and Technology University named after Oguzkhan, has opened its doors for students in Ashgabat, with a capacity to enroll up to 3,000 students. The list of specialties in higher education institutions of Turkmenistan in the current academic year has been expanded by 19 new majors. These figures have been announced at today's meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of 2016. However, as has been noted by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, despite the fact that the state directs a lot of finances for expansion and modernization of material-technical base of the state education system, reforms in this area are advancing slowly. The Head of State has mentioned to the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of education S. Toylyev, such matters as insufficient staffing and lack of highly qualified specialists in specialized institutions, whose training is a task of paramount importance. Without this, it is effectively impossible to achieve development, emphasized the President of Turkmenistan.
