The President of Turkmenistan received the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of Great Britain

On 24 April 2024, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom David Cameron.

Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the guest conveyed greetings and best wishes to the head of Turkmenistan from King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Having warmly welcomed Lord David Cameron to the ancient and hospitable Turkmen soil, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov returned his best wishes to the King and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that in its foreign policy, Turkmenistan adheres to the legal status of permanent neutrality, twice recognized by special Resolutions of the UN General Assembly, and carries out broad international cooperation in order to ensure peace, security and sustainable development on the planet.

As is known, in this regard, Turkmenistan has put forward a number of international initiatives aimed at maintaining peace, trust and a culture of dialogue within large authoritative organizations, primarily the UN, which have received widespread support. As for humanitarian policy, the regular sending of international humanitarian aid by Turkmenistan was emphasized.

Taking this opportunity, the head of state thanked the British side for supporting the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan within the UN General Assembly. In particular, gratitude was expressed for the support of the Resolution “2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust” recently adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan.

Touching upon the topic of trade and economic relations, the interlocutors noted with satisfaction the dynamics of development of bilateral trade turnover and the established fruitful cooperation in the field of trade.

In order to further expand economic cooperation, according to the parties, it is advisable to use the capabilities of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industrial Council. The oil and gas industry, agriculture and new technologies were identified as promising areas of interaction.

One of the topics of discussion was the issues of climate change and its harmful effects on human life, which occupy an important place on the international agenda.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan fully supports the proposals of the international community in this direction and is carrying out specific activities in the field of green growth.

The interlocutors also noted the wide opportunities available for developing cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In this regard, emphasis was placed on intensifying bilateral cultural dialogue.

They expressed readiness for partnership with the British side in the field of education, in particular in the field of using targeted programs and promoting English language teaching.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Cameron exchanged wishes for good health and success in all endeavors.
