A new citizen of Turkmenistan was born at the Maternal and Child Health Research Centre in the first minutes of the New Year. He is the first reported baby born in 2017 in our country. Certainly, there are many babies born in different parts of our country every day. To be born in the New Year’s night is very symbolic for the baby boy and his family. As for the majority of us January 1 is the beginning of a New Year, and somebody is a beginning of a new life. A wonderful present for the mother and father! Moreover, this is the first baby in the family of Bahargul and Azimberdy Palchyyevs. According to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan, the baby boy is healthy, he weighed 3.145 kg and was 50 cm long at birth. The happy parents want to name their son Palvan (an athlete, bogatyr) in honour of the forthcoming 2017 Asian Games. The government provides maternity benefits, child care allowance as well as additional post-childbirth leave that provides the opportunity to ensure the health development of a child from the first days. The multibranch network of medical, preventive, diagnostic institutions as well as health-improving and recreation centres was established throughout the country. The Ene Myahri Centres of Maternal and Child Health Protection stand as an important part of this system. Maternal and Child Health Research Centre was opened on July 20, 2015 with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan. This largest medical institution unites the key areas of science and obstetric aid, the practices and modern technologies in obstetrics, perinatal medicine, newborns’ critical care, medical genetics, diagnostics, and treatment of children’s diseases among others. According to the joint plan of cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund in the framework of the programme on early child development, it is planned to train local coaches and specialist in this sphere.
