Incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has transferred his allotted airtime to other presidential candidates. He announced about his decision on Sunday, 25 December, speaking on national television. “I ask the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda to distribute my allotted time for appearances on television among other candidates for the post of the President of Turkmenistan”, said the Head of State, wishing success to all of them. The presidential elections in Turkmenistan will be held on 12 February 2017. Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov is one of the nine candidates, registered by the Central Election Commission. In accordance with the new edition of Constitution (Fundamental Law), President of Turkmenistan will be elected for a term of seven years. He also becomes the head of government.
