In accordance with the Resolution of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, the Foundation for restoration and preservation of national historical and cultural monuments will be created at the National management on protection, study and preservation of historical and cultural sites of Turkmenistan. The activity of the Fund will include protecting, preservation and renovation of historical and cultural monuments, as well as financing of such works. At present, the maintenance of historical and cultural heritage, including ancient historical monuments and rich culture of Turkmen people are among the priority aspects of the state policy. As of today, Turkmenistan has registered near 1300 historical and archeological objects, including 245 of them having the status of state importance: 109 – in Ahal province, 9 – in Dashoguz, 23 – in Balkan province, 17 - in Lebap province, 87 – in Mary province. The historical sites of Ancient Merv, Old Nisa, Kone-Urgench were entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
