On December 8, the Public Health and Nutrition Center of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service (the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry) hosted a meeting of the Interagency Working Group on “The 2013-2017 National Nutrition Program for the Population of Turkmenistan”. Attended by international experts of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the meeting focused on the outcomes of the 11-month work accomplished and future prospects for cooperation. The meeting agenda included also discussion of the draft of a new Nutrition Program for 2018-2025. The meeting participants highlighted a particular importance of the Public Health and Nutrition Center instituted on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and officially opened in the running year’s summer – a state-of-the-art innovative institution, which specializes in investigating the impact of social and biological factors on the population’s health, developing ecologically clean food technologies and nutritional standards. Representatives of a number of ministries and agencies from the Turkmen side made speeches at the meeting. Foreign specialists offered the forum participants new insights into the best practices of introducing the principles of proper nutrition and obesity prevention, the latest methods of laboratory investigations of assessing the quality of foodstuffs. International experts rated very high the results of the work implemented in our country in the frames of “The 2013-2017 National Nutrition Program for the Population of Turkmenistan”.
