Within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Mission of international observers of SCO led by Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Grigory Logvinov, the meeting with representatives of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan took place. The elections of deputies of the Mejlis, members of the Khalk Maslakhaty and Gengeshes for velayats, etraps and cities, which were held on March 26, became the main topic of discussion.
During the meeting efficiency of bilateral long-term cooperation was marked, as one of key aspects of which is exchange of experience and study of rules of law and international practice of organisation of election campaigns.
The basic attention was given to the high level of organisation of the present political event. As was underlined, all stages of the election campaign were held according to the current legislation of Turkmenistan, and elections - on a wide alternative basis taking into account the generally accepted world standards.
Objectivity of election process was promoted by participation of national and international observers from largest international organisations, including the CIS, SCO, Organization of Turkic States, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and also group of experts from the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe invited at the initiative of the Turkmen party. Within the framework of their capacities, they were given an opportunity to observe freely the course of the election campaign and direct voting on the election day and to visit polling stations in the capital and velayats of the country.
During the meeting the open doors policy realized by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and also the course taken on wide democratic transformations were highly appreciated. In the given context, having noted that the present elections visually testify to the fact, Grigory Logvinov confirmed readiness of SCO henceforth to expand productive interaction with Turkmenistan.
