Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan strengthen inter-parliamentary ties

Today, the meeting of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, who arrived in Ashgabat on a visit at the head of the parliamentary delegation of her country, took place at the Oguzkent hotel in the capital.

Warmly welcoming the head of the Parliament of Azerbaijan and thanking her for accepting the invitation to visit Turkmenistan, Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that today's meeting would give an effective impetus to strengthening interstate dialogue, including at the level of parliaments.

Thanking for the warm welcome and hospitality, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan conveyed to the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan cordial greetings and best wishes from the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Then the meeting continued in an expanded format with the participation of parliamentary delegations from both countries.

At the end of the meeting in an expanded format, a ceremony of signing a bilateral document was held. Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Then, in a solemn atmosphere, the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was read out on awarding the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova with the Order of Turkmenistan “Hyzmatdaşlygy ösdürmäge goşandy üçin”, (“For the contribution to develop cooperation”) which she was awarded for her great personal contribution to the comprehensive development of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations.

On behalf of the head of state, to the friendly applause of the audience, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh presented a high award to the head of the Azerbaijani Parliament, warmly congratulating her on this significant event and wishing her further success in her work.

In turn, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan and the Hero-Arkadag for the honor, emphasizing that, for her part, she would continue to fully contribute to strengthening the trust-based, traditionally friendly dialogue between the two fraternal countries and peoples.

In the afternoon, the Head of the Azerbaijani Parliament laid a wreath at the Monument of Independence of Turkmenistan, located in the southern part of Ashgabat. On the same day, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the National Museum of the Turkmen Carpet.

On behalf of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, an official reception was given in honor of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was accompanied by performances by masters of art.
