Last week, a meeting was held in the National Parliament with the delegation of the People’s Republic of China that arrived in Ashgabat headed by Deputy Chairperson of All-China Women’s Federation Ms Shen Yueyue. Having expressed their gratitude for warm welcome, the guests took the opportunity to extend to Turkmen parliamentarians their heartfelt congratulations on the 25th anniversary of Independence of our country, and addressed their wishes to President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan for peace, prosperity and new grandiose achievements on the course of sovereign development. Members of the Chinese delegation were briefed on priorities of the domestic and foreign policy pursued by the nation’s leader, goals and targets of large-scale socio-economic transformations and major reforms ongoing in the country, including those in the legal field. In this regard, reviewing the global expertise in such areas as ensuring gender equality, maternal and child welfare, comprehensive state support for the family institution, enhancing social protection of the country’s people and introducing the relevant norms of international law into the national legislation were highlighted as primary areas of activity of the National Parliament. In this context the significance of the revised Constitution of Turkmenistan, adopted after the nationwide discussion at the Elders’ Council session this autumn, was particularly emphasized. Having discussed prospects for cooperation, participants in the meeting reiterated their mutual interest in further expansion of the productive dialog. *** A delegation of the People’s Republic of China also met with leaders of the Central Council of Women’s Union of Turkmenistan. The meeting focused on the issues of active involvement of women in the public, political, socio-economic and cultural activities of the two countries, development of educational and healthcare systems, and strengthening international ties in the humanitarian sphere. During the present visit the guests were in one of Ashgabat’s general education schools, the “Ene Mahri” International Center, and made a tour of museums and other sights of the Turkmen capital.
