Prospects for expanding the inter-parliamentary dialogue were discussed during the meeting of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, Ms. Terhi Hakala being in Turkmenistan on a working visit.
The interlocutors were unanimous in their opinion that in the conditions of the modern world, inter-parliamentary cooperation serves as one of the most important tools for promoting constructive dialogue, maintaining ties of friendship and mutual understanding between countries and peoples.
“We highly appreciate the achieved level of bilateral cooperation and consider it as a basis for the development of relations for the long term,” the leader of the nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined, noting that for many years the European Union has been providing technical assistance to our country within the framework of specialized projects and programs aimed at solving priority tasks of further economic and social development of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in intensifying the inter-parliamentary dialogue within the framework of existing partnership mechanisms, in particular the European Union – Turkmenistan Joint Committee.

Today the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, Ms. Terhi Hakala met with the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, G. Mammedova. During the meeting, the parties also highlighted the need to further deepen inter-parliamentary ties that have a significant impact on the progressive development of relations between Turkmenistan and the EU, bringing them to a qualitatively new level that meets mutual interests.
