Turkmenistan is on the verge of a major event. Less and less time remains until the moment when the country's polling stations open their doors for the people of Turkmenistan, who, using their constitutional right, will have to fulfill their civic duty and elect the head of state. The elections of the President of Turkmenistan will be another clear evidence of the irreversibility of the process of democratization of the modern Turkmen society, which is preparing in an atmosphere of openness, publicity, awareness of its high responsibility for the future of the Motherland, to make a choice in favor of the most worthy of the nine candidates running for the highest state post.
As TDH was informed by the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan, large-scale work has been done during the election campaign, in the orbit of which both representatives of state structures of all levels and public organizations were involved. Preparations for the elections of the President of Turkmenistan were carried out in strict accordance with the electoral legislation in force in the country and the norms of international law.
Today, readiness "number one" has been declared at all polling stations in the country, each of which is equipped in advance with transparent ballot boxes, including portable, ballot papers and all the necessary reference and methodological literature. Premises equipped with special booths are allocated for the voting procedure. Each polling station is equipped with reliable communications and vehicles.
Precinct election commissions, which included authoritative representatives of labor collectives and public organizations, treated their duties with special responsibility. Through the efforts of local activists, extensive explanatory work was carried out among the population, which is designed to promote the activity of voters. Moreover, those of them who, for any reason, will be absent from their place of residence on election day, have the right to vote early. At the moment, this is about 7 percent of the total number of voters. The ballot papers filled in by them will be stored in special sealed ballot boxes until the counting of votes begins.
A special place in the activities of precinct commissions was given to work with proxies of candidates for the President of Turkmenistan, including assistance in organizing and holding meetings with the electorate. All meetings of voters with contenders for the post of head of state were held in accordance with the schedule established and agreed between the parties. At the same time, it is important to emphasize that all candidates were provided with equal conditions and opportunities for conducting election campaigning.
