The IX extraordinary Congress of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan was held today at the Center for Public Organizations, with nomination of a candidate for the post of President of Turkmenistan by one of the leading political organizations of the country being the main issue on the discussion agenda.

Representatives of public organizations and mass media took part in the forum along with the delegates.

Earlier, the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums announced the start of the election campaign on February 14, 2022, therefore, today, in accordance with national legislation, the nomination of candidates for the highest state post has begun.

During the current forum, its participants considered a proposal to nominate Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov as a candidate for the post of President of Turkmenistan.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov graduated from the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov in 2001 with a degree in process engineering. Being also a specialist in international relations, over the years of his career, he gained rich experience in managerial activity, holding such positions as the Chairman of the Mejlis Committee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy and then Hyakim of Ahal Velayat, Minister of Industry and Construction Production, Chairman of the Supreme Control chamber, member of the State Security Council and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Noting his merits, work experience in leadership positions, high business and moral qualities, the meeting participants decided to run him as a candidate for the country's highest state post.

At the end of the debate, a draft resolution is put to the vote on the approval of the candidacy of Serdar Berdimuhamedov nominated for the post of President of the country, which was adopted unanimously.

In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked those present for their trust and said that he was aware of the responsibility and would do everything in his power to justify it.

The nomination campaign continues. The names of other contenders for the highest state post will soon become known, which is a clear evidence of the alternativeness of the upcoming presidential elections.

Public interest in the campaign unfolding in the country is huge, which is natural. After all, election of the head of state is the choice of the future of the country and each of its citizens.
