In accordance with the commission of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, given during the meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh held on February 11, a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held today. The main topic was the preparation for the election of the President of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of our country.

The meeting was attended by members of the CEC, working groups established under the Central Election Commission, representatives of political parties and public organizations, the media.

Opening the meeting, the head of the Central Election Commission emphasized the historical significance of the session of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, which became a significant event in the life of our state and society. Special attention was paid to the fundamental documents adopted, in particular, to the Program “Revival of a New Epoch of a Powerful State: The National Program of Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052”, as well as new tasks arising from the instructions of the leader of the nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

As noted, during the work of the supreme representative body, the head of Turkmenistan, noting that he fully supports the opinion on the need at a new stage of the country’s development to open the way to public administration to young leaders brought up in a spiritual environment and in accordance with the high requirements of modernity, announced a difficult decision for him and his intention to use his vast life and political experience as Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh.

In this regard, by the Resolution of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh, the elections of the President of Turkmenistan are scheduled for March 12, 2022 in accordance with article 81 of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, article 86 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan. This article of the Code concerns the holding of early elections.

Thus, from February 14, 2022, the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums announces the start of the election campaign, which includes several stages – the nomination of candidates, their registration, meetings with voters, etc.

During today’s meeting, a calendar plan of events for the preparation and conduct of elections was approved.

A number of organizational issues of the upcoming campaign were also discussed, the course of which will be monitored not only by national observers from political parties and public organizations, but also by international experts and observers.

Thus, a large-scale work was launched today, which will be carried out day by day, according to the approved calendar plan. And from February 14, political parties and initiative groups of citizens will begin holding meetings to nominate their candidates for the highest state post.

Taking into account the reports made and proceeding from the further tasks of the elections, the meeting considered other issues, and adopted appropriate decisions.
