The second meeting of the foreign ministers in Central Asia – China format has been held in Chinese Xian on May 12, the site of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan informs.
In his greeting speech, the head of the Foreign Ministry of the PRC Wang Yi highlighted the currency to strengthen the cooperation between foreign departments of the states in this format for implementation of the agreements reached on high level and for promotion of beneficial partnership between the countries.
During the talks, the ministers discussed the expansion of trade and economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian relations. Combating pandemics and intensification of cooperation in medical, healthcare and scientific directions were the main subjects of the meeting.
The sides have also reviewed current problems of international and regional agenda highlighting the importance of foreign coordination in supporting security, stability and sustainable development.
In his speech, Vice-premier, Head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov said that Ashgabat considers strengthening of peace, regional stability, provision of conditions for safe and stable development of friendly states and nations as the main strategic priority of cooperation in this format. The Foreign Minister has also noted the importance of improvement of political trust, which is consonant with the principles of International Year of Peace and Trust initiated by Turkmenistan.
Meredov has presented Turkmen position in provision of energy, transport and ecological security on regional and international level. The Minister highlighted the importance of development of transport and transit communication on the main transport corridors of regional and continental level.
According to the vice-premier, Ashgabat plans to continue supporting transport communication and provision of stability of trade relations, including by full reveal of transport and transit potential of Central Asia.
By the outcomes of the meeting, the sides have signed the Memorandum of establishment of the format of the meetings of the foreign minister “Central Asia – China” and made joint statements on Afghanistan, on further intensification of interregional cooperation as well as on cooperation in combating COVID-19.
