Online meeting within the framework of the project of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) focused on cooperation on combating climate change. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, as well as public organizations of Turkmenistan on environmental protection took part in the meeting.
During the videoconference, the measures taken in the Central Asian countries to mitigate climate change and the possibility of attracting the resources of international financial institutions, in particular, the UN Green Climate Fund (GCF), were discussed.
As noted, over the past decades, climate change had become one of the most serious challenges for humanity, which was clearly demonstrated by the recent global climate summit. A number of initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov are aimed at uniting the efforts of the international community to address this problem. Among them is the creation of a Regional Center for Technologies on climate change in Ashgabat under the auspices of the UN.
