The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Committee for Water Resources, organized a videoconference meeting "Multilateral Dialogue on Development of Cooperation in the Aral Sea Region". The meeting took place on the International Mother Earth Day.
The forum was attended by representatives of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh, ministries and departments, universities and public organizations of the country, as well as authoritative international and regional organizations that work with Turkmenistan in the field of environmental preservation.
Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, UNICEF Representative Christine Weigand, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of IFAS Mr. Husniddin Sharofiddinov, Resident Representative a.i. at UNDP Turkmenistan Natia Natsvlishvili, Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia Zafar Makhmudov, Senior Officer in FAO Sub-regional Office for Central Asia Sumiter Broca,, as well as Head of the GIZ regional programme "Green Central Asia" Dr. Caroline Milow made their presentations during the meeting.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the efforts made by Turkmenistan to resolve the Aral Sea problem, as well as the prospects for international cooperation to maintain environmental sustainability in the region.
