The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by Gulshat Mammedova, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the Central Asian Forum "The Role of Women in Fostering Peace, Trust and Security”, organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat in co-operation with the Government of Turkmenistan.
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Ann Linde, OSCE Secretary General, Helga Schmid as well as high-level officials of the parliaments of foreign states and international structures participated in the videoconference meeting.
Forum participants emphasized that all participating states had made progress in establishing an advanced national legal framework aimed at protecting women's rights and promoting gender equality.
Representatives of our country made an overview of the legislation of Turkmenistan in this area, spoke about the role of women in various spheres of state and public life. As noted, the state policy of our country prioritized the principle of equal rights and freedoms, the creation of equal opportunities for men and women.
According to those speaking, the Forum offers an excellent platform for discussions and exchange of experience. The Forum resulted in an outcome document that included recommendations for national and regional levels. Speaking about the importance of the document, Forum participants expressed belief that it was aimed at fostering gender equality and sustainable development.
