Last week, winners and prize-winners of the Wushu Junior Championship of Turkmenistan were determined in the capital’s sport center “Galkynysh”. In tandem with these competitions, a qualifying tournament was held among men and women. The best of them are to represent our country at the World Championship in the near future. Juniors competed for medals in two disciplines –taolu (a set of routines) and sanda (duels) - in the four age groups (7-14 years). The competitions organized by the State Sports Committee of Turkmenistan and the National Wushu Federation, were attended by representatives of all velayats and Ashgabat city – in all, about 130 masters of this ancient martial art. The best sport training in the junior group was demonstrated by athletes of Ashgabat: the alumni of Yazmyrat Annamyradov, Nurmurat Babaev and Begench Hallyev won 12 gold medals. Representatives of Dashoguz wushu school were second in the team rating (coaches Dovletgeldy Sapardurdyev and Begli Aydogdyev), who accounted for 8 gold medals. By one gold medal less had Balkan velayat’s team (coach Jumamyrat Garlyev), which closed the first group of three prize winners. Selection to the national team was carried out in the seven weight categories among men and in two weight categories among the women. The best figures were again achieved by the athletes of Ashgabat who had more than once achieved success on the world sport arena. For instance, Charyklych Tagangylyjov (Ashgabat) won a confident victory in the weight category up to 60 kg. The alumnus of Chairman of the Wushu Federation of Turkmenistan Ya. Annamyradov eight times represented our country at the international tournaments, and each time he ascended the top of the podium. Moreover, in the 8th International Championship of Georgia held in Tbilisi last month, in addition to gold medal, the organizers of the competitions presented a special prize “For the best technique” to Ch. Tagangylyjov. Only one athlete is conferred such a high award, and it was encouraging that our compatriot was recognized the best fighter at the tournament that was attended by about 400 wushu masters from Russia, India, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan and other countries. Also, the victories at a qualifying tournament were won by other athletes of Ashgabat, including Rahat Rahimov (under 65 kg), Gochmyrat Jumaniyazov (70 kg), Nurmyrat Babaev (75 kg), and Muhammet Gurbanov (80 kg). Athletes of Dashoguz Shihnazar Jumaniyazov (85 kg), Irkin Kishikov (90 kg), Aygozel Kurbangeldyeva (48 kg), and Ogulnur Hudaybergenova (56 kg) won four gold medals. Now, the heads of Wushu Federation of Turkmenistan have to select five athletes among the winners who will present the country at the World Championship to be held in November in Djakarta - the capital city of Indonesia. Applications for participation in the World Championship were submitted by more than 90 countries, including Turkmenistan.
