Session of the V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts Steering Committee

Last week, on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, the Turkmen capital hosted next session of the Steering Committee of V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts to be held in Ashgabat in 2017 according to the decision of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Members of the government, heads of ministries and sectoral departments concerned took part in the session. In the frames of the session of the Steering Committee of V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts, the reports on the work accomplished were presented by the heads of some ministries and departments. The speakers focused on the measures taken to accelerate the work aimed at not only training highly skilled athletes but also at such organizational issues, as reception of foreign sport delegations, arrangement of accommodations and meals for their members, cultural program and many other items. At the session of the Steering Committee, special emphasis was made on involvement in the work ongoing in our country of the known foreign companies that have extensive experience in the organization of international-level competitions, such as the Olympic and Asian Games. For instance, the British Company “CSM Sport&Entertainment LLP trading as CSM Strategies” closely cooperates with the Steering Committee of V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts. The joint work had resulted in signing by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov last year’s May a Resolution on developing by the company of the General Plan of Asian Games-2017, which included major sections of the phased preparations for the Games in all the functional trends. In this connection, a decision was made at the Steering Committee’s session to announce an international tender for choosing a foreign company to undertake a detailed planning and organization of the Games. A wide range of issues discussed at the meeting concerning preparation for V Asian Games, included also logistical support, healthcare, maintenance, and other services, security measures for athletes and visitors of the competitions, the Olympic Village management policy, etc. Another item on the agenda was summarizing of the results of the international tender for choosing a company to be entitled to broadcast the Asian Games-2017 competitions, as well as to organize training specialists in this field. Participants in the session also considered the issues connected with administering and operating the facilities completed within the framework of the first and second phases of the Olympic Village construction, holding sport competitions in them, other test activities, organizing regular volunteers’ training programs in such basic skills, as fluency in foreign languages, communicability, self-discipline, responsibility, etc. In addition, consideration was given to the issues of system-purposeful motivation of record-high-achievements sports development in Turkmenistan on the whole, and preparation of Turkmen athletes for the forthcoming complex competitions in particular. In this respect, special stress was laid on the advisability of hiring skilled foreign trainers under the contracts, providing training halls for the national teams in the sports included in the V Asian Games program, assignment of persons and organizations responsible for each of them, and many other activities. Not the least significant, the session has stressed, is development of the clear-cut training and tournament schedules for each sport discipline included in the Asian Games-2017 program to enable to reveal and intensify training of the most prominent athletes possessing great potential. Special attention was given to the organizational issues of the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies, and to the issue-associated proposals made by different companies. It was stressed that the national traditions and customs, as well as the Turkmen people’s rich culture, should be harmoniously reflected in these grand spectacular events. This applies also to the Asian Games-2017 emblems, official symbols and motto, as well as to dissemination of information about the event, including through a special website. The importance was stressed of conducting the organized, well-planned, professional PR-campaign, advertising of the future Games in the countries of Asia and Oceania, in the leading international editions, Internet sites, and on TV sport channels. Discussions at the Steering Committee’s session covered also the questions of conducting in Ashgabat in September of the Asian Olympic Council’s General Assembly’s 34th meeting to sum up the first results of a preliminary stage of preparations for the V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts. The OCA General Assembly’s forum, in the framework of which the sessions of the Coordinating, Financial and Executive committees of the organization are to take place, is expected to gather about 600 foreign visitors in the Turkmen capital. Sessions of the Steering Committee of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were suggested to be held quarterly in order to quickly address the priority issues of preparation for the Asian Games-2017.
