Vice-premier, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had video conference session with Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar. Different aspects of cooperation in the context of telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani have been discussed during the session. In this regard, special focus was made of importance of activation of bilateral cooperation in transit, transport and energy spheres, which meet the interests of two countries and entire region. It was informed that during telephone conversation of the heads of two states, Turkmen side has supported proposal of Afghan leader to hold video conference meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, which agenda to include improvement of efficiency of Lapis Lazuli transport corridor. Due to advantageous geographic location of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, this route is very important for productive international partnership in order to enhance economic integration of the region and to increase trade volumes significantly. Exchanging the view on regional and international agenda, the foreign ministers of two countries noted the necessity of development of coordinated approach to solution of current issues including coronavirus pandemic. In this aspect, the necessity of coordinated sanitary and quarantine measures at the border between two states for uninterrupted cargo flow has been noted. Turkmen side confirmed the willingness to build special terminals similar to terminals in our country for disinfection of railroad transport as well as to provide these facilities with necessary equipment as a humanitarian aid at the border control points and some other places in Afghanistan. This also has been discussed during the above-mentioned telephone conversation between the heads of two states. In his turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar expressed gratitude for humanitarian aid provided on regular basis and comprehensive support given by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
