Online meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Thomas Greminger was held in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. Wide range of subjects including cooperation in legal sphere, cooperation under international parliamentary organizations have been discussed at the session. In particular, positive practice of Turkmenistan in modernization of national legislation taking into account world practice, universal standards of international law has been noted. Thus, the subject of coming transit of the Mejlis to two-chamber system, due to which Draft Constitutional Law on amendments and addendums of the Constitution of Turkmenistan has been brought out for national discussion, has been highlighted. It was highlighted that initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for improvement of the Main Law of the country, modernization of National Parliament and adding of new legal status of the People’s Council were widely supported in Turkmen society. Protection of civil rights and freedoms of people is an important aspect of the government policy and our country strictly follows undertaken obligations according to universal legal standards in the world practice. Interested exchange of opinions was held under the conversation regarding strengthening of relations with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. In this aspect, importance of regular consultations and meetings of colleague parliamentarians, who support the formation of modern platform for further intensification of multidimensional relations of our country with European Union states, has been highlighted. *** The OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger discussed perspectives of comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan during video conference session in the Foreign Ministry. Having given high appraisal to active position of Turkmenistan in the world arena, the Head of the OSCE made special mention of the currency of initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at development of interesting dialog, which is built on the principles of transparency, trust and taking into account interests of partner countries, which support to the formation of the most favourable climate for support of peace and security. Joint projects, which are planned to be implemented in political, economic and humanitarian spheres, were the subjects of detailed exchange of opinions. They are aimed at consolidation of efforts in such important directions as strengthening of security, combating of dangerous modern challenges and threats, diversification of economy, energy efficiency, climate change and other. The Head of the OSCE has also read a lecture in online format in International University of Humanitarian Studies and Development, which was dedicated to remarkable date – the 25th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. For the last quarter of the century, Turkmen neutrality has recommended itself as actual mechanism of establishment of cooperation in solution of current objectives, improvement of friendly and neighbouring relations between the states and nations. This is visually indicated by unanimous adoption of new Resolution by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, which expresses support to neutral status of our country of our country, recognition of its important role in the region and in world arena as well as by the fact of announcement of December 12 as International Day of Neutrality by the General Assembly by initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Peace-loving, non-interference into affairs of other states, respect of their sovereignty, non-participation in international military organizations and treaties, equal beneficial cooperation are the main provisions of the policy of positive neutrality, which is pursued under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan. It was mentioned that having recommended itself as responsible and long-term partner of the UN, OSCE and other competent organizations, Turkmenistan takes active part in joint international efforts for strengthening of peace, security and cooperation in regional and global scales.
