On April 12, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov met with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon within the framework of participation in the VII World Water Forum in the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon highly appreciated the level and dynamics of development of the interstate dialogue, which is based on age-old historical, cultural and spiritual commonality of the Turkmen and Tajik peoples. The heads of states exchanged opinions on a wide range of trends, having discussed the implementation progress of some interstate economic projects. The interest was expressed in promoting contacts in the transport sector, a powerful impetus to which would be given by the large-scale Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project destined to serve the interests not only of the two friendly countries and nations, but also the entire region. The parties also stressed effectiveness of advancing the partnership in the power industry, trade, oil and gas industry and agriculture, having noted an important role of the joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission. The leaders of two countries confirmed the readiness to further advance the constructive partnership both in the bilateral format, and within the international organizations. In the course of an exchange of opinions on the issues of world policy of mutual interest, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon, having noted similarity of viewpoints on many issues, stressed the importance of intensifying cooperation in ensuring of global energy security and combining of efforts in tackling pressing environmental issues. The sides also evinced interest in implementing joint projects in the field of science, education, culture and sports and, on the whole, advancing a dialogue in the humanitarian field, as a fundamental instrument of strengthening peace, cooperation and sustainable development. At the end of the meeting, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon once again confirmed adherence of their states to the traditional bonds of friendship and good neighborliness, having wished the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan happiness, peace and well-being. The head of Turkmen state invited his Tajik colleague to participate in the festivities on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
