Last week, a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan was held to consider the issues connected with preparations for the upcoming election of Gengesh members to be held on August 16 this year in compliance with the Resolution of Mejlis of Turkmenistan. Among those attending the meeting were members of the Commission and working groups, national observers – senior officials of the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, social organizations and unions of the country, as well as media representatives. The meeting agenda was focused on the launch of the pre-election campaign on April 6 in accordance with the Election Code. A range of issues concerning different aspects of the campaign were also given consideration. Heads of regional election commissions delivered their reports on the ongoing organizational work at the local level, including on setting up of constituencies. The Central Election Commission adopted the plan of activities for preparation and holding of the election. Forms of ballot papers, instructions for election committees, guides for national observers and the mass media, as well as a number of other related documents were considered and adopted. Gengeshi, bodies of local self-government, are active agents of state policy, interested participants in the large-scale reforms and comprehensive development programs ongoing in the country. In the course of the Central Election Commission meeting, other organizational issues were considered, and the relevant resolutions were adopted.
