The International Floricultural and Horticultural Exhibition, organized last week by the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Turkmenistan in the Turkmen capital, became the expression of creative inspiration and beauty. The exhibition, held at the flush of spring flowering, was intended to demonstrate the enormous potential of domestic and foreign decorative plants growers and their achievements in the fields of selection and new technologies, as well as to provide a platform for exchange of experience and establishment of long-term partnership. Though the show was notable for the bright individual approach and inventiveness in choosing materials and colors to decorate the stands, all participants had united around a common goal. It included demonstration and promotion of new varieties of plants, modern floristic designing and landscape gardening methods and techniques, as well as services in procurement of the high quality flower, fruit, berry and ornamental planting stock and landscape design accessories and equipment and attracting experts to realization of joint projects. Exposition halls of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Biology and Medicinal Plants of the Turkmenistan’s Academy of Sciences showed achievements in preservation of biodiversity in national parks, as well as in research works on study of rare and endemic species of plants. Stands contained seed stock samples of more than 40 species of local coniferous and deciduous trees, including Zeravshan juniper, Turkmen juniper, Eldar pine, saxaul, and other desert and mountain plants of Turkmenistan. At present, nut trees are successfully grown in natural conditions at experimental plots of the Kopetdag State Nature Reserve where there are pistachio plantations and Circassian walnut and almond gardens. Study of healing properties of medicinal plants is another important area of activity. The fundamental encyclopedic work of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Member of the Turkmenistan’s Academy of Sciences, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov «Medicinal plants of Turkmenistan» became a good source of valuable information useful for researches and new discoveries in herbal therapy. Stands of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Communal Services, the Union of Ashgabat Markets of Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations and the State Raw Materials and Commodity Exchange were arranged in galleries displaying ornamental trees and shrubs and gorgeous flower compositions. They also contained samples of mineral fertilizers and gardening implements. Domestic enterprises make a ponderable contribution to development of floristic and landscape designing services and the spheres of floriculture and horticulture, as well as expansion of a range of offered products by introducing new exotic varieties of flowers and trees. Stands of private companies and firms became the paradise isles of wonderful gardens, captivating by a combination of natural harmony and man-made wonder. Masters - real enthusiasts of their trade create floristic art masterpieces, skillfully arranging a great number of beautiful and fragrant flowers provided by Dutch producers, including orchids, tulips, hyacinths, bird-of-paradise flowers, freesias, proteas, turmerics, anthuriums, gladioluses, amaranths, palms, ferns, gypsophila, callas and heliconias. A conference was organized in the Exposition Centre’s conference hall to discuss floriculture and horticulture development prospects in Turkmenistan, as well as the issues of sending Turkmen products to foreign markets and establishing cooperation in this sphere with foreign partners. Presentations were made by representatives of our country’s state institutions and research centers and the heads of private companies possessing abundant experience in this field. The heads of some Turkish companies shared their experience in growing tulips and other bulbous plants, farming seeds of ornamental plants and production of flowerpots and containers for seedlings and presented their ideas and proposals on landscape designing. As participants in the forum noted, owing to the all-round state support and attention to improvement of urban and rural areas of our country and the large-scale trees and shrubs planting program under way in Turkmenistan, all conditions are created for intensification of fruitful and mutually beneficial international cooperation in this sector.
